Fireplace Insert Technologies by Gavryliv & Sons

An insert’s materials and construction influence how the fire burns, how the air supply is adjusted and how its components respond to heat. Explore eight Gavryliv & Sons solutions and the role each plays in everyday fireplace use.

Technology 01

Wolfshöher Tonwerke fireclay lining

The lining forms the inner surface of the combustion chamber. Gavryliv & Sons inserts use light-coloured refractory fireclay from the German manufacturer Wolfshöher Tonwerke.

How it works. Fireclay separates the metal walls from direct flame contact, absorbs heat and releases it gradually. The material is designed to withstand high temperatures and temperature changes.

What it means for youProtection for the metal body and a carefully finished combustion chamber. Two lining designs help match the chamber’s appearance to your fireplace concept, depending on the model.

Technology 02

Smooth combustion-air adjustment

The air regulator lets you adjust combustion intensity. Its mechanism combines bronze bushings, a PTFE spacer and dampers.

How it works. The bushings support the moving components, the spacer helps maintain even pressure and the dampers soften contact between metal parts.

What it means for youPredictable regulator movement and less noise during adjustment, making the air supply easier to control in everyday use.

Reinforced body and external air channels

The design combines fireclay lining, external air channels and channel-section reinforcement of the insert body.

How it works. Fireclay shields the walls in the flame zone. External channels reduce resistance to the air supply, while reinforcement increases body rigidity through heating and cooling cycles.

What it means for youA structure designed for repeated thermal loads and a defined air supply to the combustion chamber.

More complete burning of wood gases

Burning wood releases combustible gases. The secondary combustion system supplies additional air to the zone where these gases can burn.

How it works. With sufficient temperature and air, the gases burn more completely. System performance also depends on fuel, chimney draught, correct installation and operating conditions.

What it means for youBetter use of the wood and fewer products of incomplete combustion under suitable conditions. The system does not eliminate the need to maintain the insert and chimney.

Stainless-steel door moulding

The moulding is a shaped component on the inside of the door. It forms part of the door assembly and performs several practical functions.

How it works. It shields the door profile from heat, helps guide embers into the chamber and directs airflow along the glass.

What it means for youAdditional protection for the door profile and support for the glass airwash. Glass cleanliness also depends on fuel and combustion conditions; periodic cleaning is still necessary.
Technology 06

Thempores 922 two-component coating

The exterior body is finished with Thempores 922 two-component heat-resistant paint from the Belgian manufacturer PLPCOATINGS.

How it works. The coating is designed to protect and finish metal exposed to repeated heating. The Thempores 922 manufacturer states that the coating releases no odours or fumes during the first heating.

What it means for youA heat-resistant finish without the characteristic paint smell on first heating, according to the coating manufacturer. This does not mean that other materials or fuel cannot produce smoke or odours; follow the first-firing and ventilation instructions.
Technology 07

Steel profile for large-format doors

Large-format doors use a special steel profile developed for fireplace inserts.

How it works. Its cross-sectional shape takes account of the door dimensions and operation under heat. The profile forms the basis of the door assembly.

What it means for youA door construction adapted to a large glass format. The precise design and opening mechanism depend on the insert model.

Upper heat-storage module: recovering heat from flue gases

Heat storage captures energy while the fire is burning and releases it gradually after the fire has died down. The Gavryliv & Sons upper heat-storage module sits above the insert and uses heat from the flue gases on their way to the chimney.

How it works. Hot flue gases pass through the module’s channels, transferring part of their heat to its thermal mass. The stored energy is then released gradually after combustion ends, extending the fireplace’s heat output.

What it means for youPart of the flue-gas heat is captured for later heating, with a more gradual release of the stored energy. Heat-release duration depends on the firing cycle, fireplace construction and room conditions.

Easy cleaning from the combustion chamber

The module’s flue-gas channels can be accessed for cleaning from the combustion chamber. This makes soot removal and routine maintenance of the heat-storage module easier. Clean only when the fireplace is fully cold and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Fireplace inserts with a Ø180 mm flue outlet

The upper heat-storage module is compatible with inserts with a Ø180 mm flue outlet. The current catalogue lists this diameter for the following 12 models:

Before ordering, confirm the configuration, module dimensions, chimney parameters and installation with a specialist. Include the additional 180 kg in the fireplace design and the load calculation for its supporting base.

Technologies, materials and available designs depend on the model and configuration. Check the specifications of your chosen insert before ordering. Installation and operation must follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
